The Plaza Cinema at Dale End had one screen, 450 seats, and opened on 31 August 1931. It was one of three cinemas in the Ironbridge Gorge. It is believed to have closed in 1967. Fifty years later, the Gorge Film Club had its first screening in Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge Community Centre, on 6 April 2017. A pilot programme of four screenings led us to believe that there is enough support and interest for the Club to become a regular feature of life in the Gorge. Currently we show films on Monday afternoons throughout the winter months on a fortnightly basis and we have expanded to develop a summer programme of “Event Cinema” once a month. The programme is completely determined by our audiences: if you have a film you would like to recommend, please get in touch.
